Our Next Production

We are casting for the principal roles of Phoebus, Captain of the Guard and Clopin, King/Queen of the Parisian Romani for next year’s production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, in Lincoln Cathedral. We are considering any gender for the character of Clopin.

If you are interested in auditioning for one of these roles, we would like you to prepare a 2-minute film of you performing a musical theatre song that you feel best demonstrates your abilities and upload it to the link below. It can be a song from the show itself if you prefer.

Click here to upload your film.

Please hold up a sheet of paper at the start of your film with your name, email and contact number. Make sure it is clear, as this will be how we get back in touch with you!

The dashing new captain of the Cathedral Guard, described as a handsome, strong soldier who makes the ladies swoon. Conflicted between following his duty – including Frollo’s prejudiced instructions – and doing what’s right, he struggles with the trauma he experienced in four years of intense battle on the war front before rediscovering his moral compass. Charming and arrogant, Phoebus focuses on enjoying life’s pleasures before quickly falling for Esmeralda and ultimately defying Frollo.

AGE: 25-40 (This is not literal, it refers to the actor’s playing age. You can play up or down to this age range)

Bottom: A2

ETHNICITY: All Ethnicities

The clever and charismatic King/Queen of the Romani population in Paris. An air of mystery surrounds Clopin, who often leaves the scene in a puff of smoke. An agile entertainer and sherutno (Romani leader) who knows how to work the crowd on “Topsy Turvy” day. They are witty and playful, but boast a darker, serious nature when not performing for the crowd. Acutely aware of the prejudice against Roma and their resulting precarious position in Paris, Clopin is fiercely protective of Esmeralda and the other Roma, and so shrewdly runs the Court of Miracles as a tight ship.

AGE 30-40 (This is not literal, it refers to the actor’s playing age. You can play up or down to this age range).

Bottom: D3

ETHNICITY: All ethnicities, though we would be particularly interested in those with a Romani background.
